Closing the year
Cerrar el ejercicio
The year-end close moves the result of the year to retained earnings with a single closing entry, closes the fiscal year and leaves the next one ready.
El cierre de ejercicio pasa el resultado del año a resultados acumulados con un único asiento de cierre, cierra el ejercicio y deja listo el siguiente.
Before you start
Antes de empezar
- Close every period of the year (see Closing a period). Leave the last one closed, not locked.
- Book every adjustment of the year before closing its last period.
- Make sure the books have a retained earnings account. The screen tells you whether it found one.
- Cerrá todos los períodos del ejercicio (mirá Cerrar un período). Dejá el último cerrado, no bloqueado.
- Registrá todos los ajustes del ejercicio antes de cerrar su último período.
- Asegurate de que los libros tengan una cuenta de resultados acumulados. La pantalla te dice si la encontró.

In Fiscal Periods, press Close Year on the open year. The screen shows three controls:
En Períodos Fiscales, tocá Cerrar Year en el ejercicio abierto. La pantalla muestra tres controles:

Close year is enabled only when no period is open and there is a retained earnings account.
Cerrar ejercicio se habilita solo cuando no queda ningún período abierto y hay una cuenta de resultados acumulados.
Close the year
Cerrar el ejercicio
- Press Close year.
- Type the name of the year exactly as shown, to confirm.
- Press Close year in the confirmation.
- Tocá Cerrar ejercicio.
- Escribí el nombre del ejercicio tal como aparece, para confirmar.
- Tocá Cerrar ejercicio en la confirmación.
What the system does:
Qué hace el sistema:
- It posts one entry of type Closing, dated on the last day of the year, with one line for each revenue and expense account that leaves its movement of the year at zero, and one line against the retained earnings account for the net result: a credit for a profit, a debit for a loss.
- It marks the fiscal year as closed and removes its Current label.
- If no fiscal year covers the following day, it creates the next one, twelve months long, with its monthly periods open.
- If the year had no revenue or expense movement, it closes the year without an entry.
- Registra un asiento de tipo Cierre, con fecha del último día del ejercicio, con una línea por cada cuenta de ingresos y de gastos que deja en cero su movimiento del año, y una línea contra la cuenta de resultados acumulados por el resultado neto: al haber si hubo ganancia, al debe si hubo pérdida.
- Marca el ejercicio como cerrado y le quita la etiqueta Actual.
- Si ningún ejercicio cubre el día siguiente, crea el próximo, de doce meses, con sus períodos mensuales abiertos.
- Si el ejercicio no tuvo movimiento de ingresos ni de gastos, lo cierra sin asiento.
After closing, View closing entry opens the entry. Then go back to Fiscal Periods and press Set as Current on the new year.
Después de cerrar, Ver asiento de cierre abre el asiento. Después volvé a Períodos Fiscales y tocá Set as Actual en el ejercicio nuevo.

The year-end close cannot be undone from the screen. A closed year has no reopen button. Check the three controls and the result before confirming.El cierre de ejercicio no se puede deshacer desde la pantalla. Un ejercicio cerrado no tiene botón para reabrirlo. The income statement leaves closing entries out, so you can still read the income statement of a closed year. On the balance sheet, the result of closed years is inside the retained earnings account.El estado de resultados deja afuera los asientos de cierre, así que podés seguir leyendo el estado de resultados de un ejercicio cerrado. En el balance general, el resultado de los ejercicios cerrados está dentro de la cuenta de resultados acumulados.
Common issues
Problemas habituales
- The Close year button is greyed out
- A period is still open or there is no retained earnings account. The hint on the button says Close every period and map a retained-earnings account first.
- "No account mapped as retained earnings"
- The books have no account set up to receive the result. This is part of the initial setup of the books: ask your administrator before going on.
- "Cannot close fiscal year while there are open periods"
- A period was reopened in the meantime. Close it and try again.
- "Fiscal period '…' is locked. No changes allowed."
- The last period of the year is locked, so the closing entry cannot be booked. Tell your administrator: a locked period cannot be reopened from the system.
- "Only open fiscal years can be closed. Current status: CLOSED"
- The year is already closed.
- El botón Cerrar ejercicio está en gris
- Queda un período abierto o no hay cuenta de resultados acumulados. La leyenda del botón dice Primero cerrá todos los períodos y mapeá la cuenta de resultados acumulados.
- «No hay ninguna cuenta mapeada como resultados acumulados»
- Los libros no tienen una cuenta configurada para recibir el resultado. Es parte de la configuración inicial de los libros: pedísela a tu administrador antes de seguir.
- «Cannot close fiscal year while there are open periods»
- Alguien reabrió un período mientras tanto. Cerralo y probá de nuevo.
- «Fiscal period '…' is locked. No changes allowed.»
- El último período del ejercicio está bloqueado, así que el asiento de cierre no se puede registrar. Avisale a tu administrador: un período bloqueado no se reabre desde el sistema.
- «Only open fiscal years can be closed. Current status: CLOSED»
- El ejercicio ya está cerrado.
