Attributes

Atributos

An attribute is a characteristic — colour, material, voltage — that you define once and then fill in on each product or SKU. Defining them once keeps the same word and the same choices across the whole catalogue.

Define an attribute

Definir un atributo

  1. Go to Products → Attributes → Attribute Definitions and press New attribute.
  2. Fill in Identity: the Code (letters, numbers, hyphens and underscores, up to 100 characters; it cannot be changed afterwards), the Name people will see, and a Description.
  3. Choose the Data Type under Type & Scope: String, Number, Boolean, Date, Enum (single select), Multi-Enum (multi select), Rich Text or JSON.
  4. Choose the Scope: Product if it is filled in on the product family, SKU if it is filled in on each SKU, or Both. It starts on Both.
  5. Fill in Options if they apply: Default Value, Unit (for example cm or kg) and Sort Order.
  6. Tick the marks that apply: Required, Searchable, Filterable and Variant Axis. Tick Variant Axis on the attributes a product can vary by (see SKUs and variants).
  7. Add the Allowed Values when the type is one of the two enum types: type the Value, optionally a Label, and press Add. Repeat for each choice.
  8. Press Create.
  1. Entrá a Productos → Atributos → Definiciones de Atributos y tocá Nuevo atributo.
  8. Tocá Crear.
⚠️
The data type and the scope are chosen once: the edit form does not show them. An attribute with scope Product cannot be filled in on a SKU, and one with scope SKU cannot be filled in on a product family. When in doubt choose Both.

Maintain the list of attributes

Fill in the attributes of a product or SKU

Open the product family or the SKU and go to its Attributes tab. The values are in blocks: Required by category (what its category asks for and is still empty), Direct Values (what is set on this item) and, on a SKU, Inherited Values (what it takes from its product family).

  1. Press Add Attribute. The Add an attribute window opens with suggestions; the ones its category asks for are marked Required or Recommended.
  2. Pick an attribute from the list, or type to search it.
  3. Type or choose the Value and press Save. You see Value saved.
  4. To change a value later, press the pencil on its row (or double-click the value), set the new value and confirm with the tick. Do this for as many rows as you need.
  5. Press Save Changes. Nothing you edited with the pencil is stored until you do. Discard drops all the pending edits.
ℹ️
Leave the Locale and Channel selectors at the top of the tab on All / Default unless your company keeps different values per language or per sales channel. A value saved with a locale or channel chosen is stored only for that one.

Group attributes

Agrupar atributos

Products → Attributes → Attribute Groups lets you bundle attributes that go together, such as Dimensions or Care. Press New Group, type a Code and a Name and press Create. Then open the group, go to Members, press Add Attribute, tick the attributes and press Add Selected. A group can be deactivated from its ⋮ menu; it cannot be deleted. Use Edit on the group to set its Description and Sort Order.

Review attributes created on the fly

Revisar los atributos creados sobre la marcha

Attributes created from a product, a SKU or a category, instead of from Attribute Definitions, are listed in the Needs Review card of Products → Attributes so that whoever looks after the catalogue can check them. The ⋮ menu of each one offers:

Attribute Templates and Attribute Dependencies are also in the Attributes menu. Today a template built on screen carries no default values, so Apply Template adds nothing to a product, and dependency rules are saved but not applied when you fill in a product. Both are left out of this manual until they are complete.

Common issues

Problemas habituales

"This code is already in use"
Another attribute has that code. Before choosing another code, check whether the attribute you need already exists.
"Only letters, numbers, hyphens and underscores"
The code does not accept spaces, accents or other symbols.
"This option already exists"
That allowed value is already on the list.
"Attribute '…' has scope SKU and cannot be set on FAMILY" (or the reverse)
The attribute was defined for the other level. Fill it in on the SKU (or on the product family), or define an attribute with scope Both.
"Similar attributes already exist."
The name you typed looks like an attribute that exists. Click it to reuse it, or press Create anyway if it really is something else.
"Enter a value before saving" / "Add at least one choice"
A value is mandatory when you add an attribute, and a choice attribute needs at least one choice.
"Failed to save attributes"
The values were not stored. If the notice names an attribute, correct that value; otherwise press Save Changes again.
A deprecated attribute still shows on a product
Deprecating does not erase the values already loaded. Remove them from the Attributes tab of the product if you no longer want them.
An attribute I deprecated is still in Needs Review
Only Bless (mark curated) takes an attribute off that list.
«Solo letras, números, guiones y guiones bajos»
«Attribute '…' has scope SKU and cannot be set on FAMILY» (o al revés)
