Both areas use the general accounting permissions. The Accounting Manager role can read and change everything described here. The Accounting Viewer role can open every screen and export, but any button that creates or changes something answers with an error. The two areas appear in the menu only when your plan includes them.

Tax codes have no screen of their own. A tax code is a code, a name and a rate, marked for sales, purchases or both. They are loaded with your company's accounting base data, and today there is no screen to add or change one: ask whoever set up your company. The old Tax Codes address now opens the Tax home.

The Tax home (Tax Management) shows four figures: Open returns, Overdue returns, Next filing deadline and Certificates to review. They count the returns and certificates stored in the system; the Refresh icon at the top recalculates them.

  1. Check the tax codes and the jurisdiction. Make sure the rates you invoice with exist and that your company has one top-level jurisdiction. See Tax jurisdictions.
  2. Invoice and enter supplier bills. The tax of each line is decided as explained in How tax is decided on a document.
  3. Set up withholdings if you withhold from suppliers. See Withholdings.
  4. Create the asset categories, then register each asset and place it in service. See Asset categories and Registering an asset.
  5. Follow each asset through its life: depreciation, transfers, changes of value and, at the end, the disposal.

Several forms ask for an identifier. Where a form says ID (for example Asset ID or Fiscal Period ID) it expects the long internal code of that record, not its name or number.
